Anniversary Advice

Ah, it’s that time of year again – your annual anniversary has rolled around and you’re clueless as to what to get your mate. Believe us, you aren’t the only inept ones among us.

Conversely, for those of us that are clue in, we know that each anniversary is accompanied by a specified stone and/or metal which tells us just what we should and what we should not buy (just yet anyway) for our significant other. The stones start off slow, with traditional gold jewelry for the 1st anniversary and pick up the pace the higher your numbers get. Following this simple guide year by year will allow you to seek out just what your mate deserves after all of these years and what may be a bit too over the top for your 1st anniversary together!

Please note the first listed is the accepted anniversary stone while the following styles are simply alternates.

1st Anniversary: Gold or Peridot

2nd Anniversary: Garnet

3rd Anniversary: Pearls or Jade

4th Anniversary: Blue Topaz or Blue Zircon

5th Anniversary: Sapphire or Pink Tourmaline

6th Anniversary: Amethyst or Turquoise

7th Anniversary: Onyx, Yellow Sapphire or Golden Beryl

8th Anniversary: Tourmaline or Tanzanite

9th Anniversary: Lapis Lazuli, Amethyst or Green Spinel

10th Anniversary: Diamond Jewelry or Blue Sapphire

11th Anniversary: Turquoise, Citrine or Yellow Zircon

12th Anniversary: Jade or Opal

13th Anniversary: Citrine, Moonstone or Hawk’s Eye

14th Anniversary: Opal, Rhodolite Garnet, Alexandrite

15th Anniversary: Ruby, Rhodolite Garnet or Alexandrite

20th Anniversary: Emerald, Yellow or Golden Diamond

25th Anniversary: Silver Jubilee, Tsavorite, Green Garnet

30th Anniversary: Pearl Jubilee

40th Anniversary: Ruby

50th Anniversary: Golden Jubilee, Imperial or Golden Topaz

60th Anniversary: Diamond Jubilee or Diamond

70th Anniversary: Sapphire Jubilee or Smoky Quartz

Just because it lists a gemstone next to nearly all of the anniversaries doesn’t mean you have to get the same bracelet or earrings in a different color each year. Be unique, get creative – find these gemstones in unconventional places. For example, try a beautiful
diamond lighter for the cigar lover

a diamond golf ball for the sports nut

or a diamond pen for the workaholic.
